The Monopoly Game
by Brianna and A.M.

Ali and I were playing Monopoly in the nice, warm weather. I was about to win when the clouds started to turn gray. We started to see the past. We could hear screaming. Next the board started to spin. All the pieces started to rise and disappear into the clouds. The next thing we knew we were asleep.

When we woke up, we were floating in a HUGE balloon. “Pop!” We fell down. We landed between two Monopoly squares. The words were too large to make out. In the distance we could see a small figure inch toward us. As he got closer, we could make out his face. He looked like Mr. Monopoly.

He told us we were playing “Monopoly” and we were the pieces! Another boy went to the middle. He pressed a button. The number “4” appeared and he moved four spaces. He landed on a space called “Fine: for drinking and driving pay $100”. Cursing under his breath, he paid the banker, which really wasn’t a banker but was a machine that collected money.

I thought to myself that if we lost, we would be trapped forever. I was determined to win. I felt we had the game on our side.

Next it was my turn.  I pushed the button and got a “6”. Counting out the spaces, I got a free trip to the Bahamas and $1,000,000!

Now it was Ali’s turn. She went to the middle and pressed the same button. The number “6” appeared. I was amazed. Now she had $1,000,000 and I had $1,000,000. Plus, both of us had a free trip to the Bahamas.

We asked the guy what his name was. Once again, he went to the middle of the board and pressed the button. He got a “4”. He counted out four spaces. Unfortunately, he landed on “Jail” and the machine came and put him in jail.

When he was in jail, he finally told us his name. It was something like “Jack”, no, “Sam”, wait, that’s not it; it was “Danny”.

Brianna went again. This time her luck changed. But it was better luck. She landed on “Railroad”. She pushed the button again and landed on “Chance”. Holding her breath, she slowly picked up the card.It said “WATERSLIDE. Everyone rides.” The boy went first. He told us the rules. They were: stay on the slide as long as you can without falling off. If you do, you are eliminated. If everyone stays on, we keep playing.

The boy went. We watched him. He twisted and turned. He made it off the slide. I went next. I stepped up to the landing and slowly put my foot into the icy water. Suddenly the water began to bubble and fizz. The current got stronger. I fell backward, closed my eyes, and screamed. My head began to whirl. But before I knew it my feet had touched the ground. I had made it. It was over .

Now it was Ali’s turn. She stepped up. As she put her feet in the water, the water carried her down and she reached the bottom.

Ali rolled and landed on the green “Railroad.” She rolled again and got “Chance”. She drew the card and didn’t dare look but she had to. It was a free ticket booth. Now I owned the Roller coaster. If I got a “1” I would collect two dollars and wait in the center of the board in a jail cell-like area until Brianna passes go.

I looked across the board. I saw Ali. Since the boy was in Jail, we skipped his turn. I pushed the button and got a “3”. I landed on “Chance” again. This time I just pulled the card out. I got “Go to Bumper Cars”. I was only four spaces away from Ali. If Ali got a “1”, she wouldn’t be waiting for long in that jail cell.

Next the boy went. He rolled “2”. He moved two spaces and landed on “Jailbreak.” He got out of Jail. Ali rolled “1” and she was free. It was up to me now. I rolled “3”. Now I was one step away from being free, but I knew Danny was catching up. Danny rolled again. He got a “5”. He was right behind me. He started laughing a sick and revengeful laugh.

Ali said, “Hurry up, Brianna, I know you can beat the good-for-nothing pile of dirt behind you."

"And how exactly are we going to get out of here if you do beat him?"

“Who knows?” I responded.

It was my turn.I didn’t dare look at the boy .I rolled the dice.Yes! I twisted around. I landed on a.”1!” We had won! As I walked toward the middle, I heard Ali’s words ringing in my head…”How exactly are we going to get out?” As soon as I passed “GO” and collected two dollars and entered the cell, a white light appeared. We heard an echo. It told us where to go. The door opened. There was a helicopter waiting outside. He motioned us to come in. Before we knew it, we were back on my front porch. The sky started to clear. The board started to float down, pieces and all. My mom came out and said, “Nasty weather. I hope you girls didn’t get rained on.” We smiled.
