In Clay Creations we will study pottery techniques; coiling, slab construction, pinch pots and creating textures to make dragons, cows, goblets, castles, penguins and more. Colorado Experiential Learning Lab (C.E.L.L.) is sponsored by a charitable non-profit organization in partnership with DPS Mr. Lauren Wilson, a science educator. The special focus of this session will be to build and fly a balsa wood airplane.

Colorado Honor Band
Grades 4-5

Cost is $195 per semester (or monthly tuition $55)

Weekly 1-hour band class (brass and woodwind). Includes weekly one-on-one coaching and group instruction, 2 Saturday workshops, and 2 public performances. Includes: starting books & materials. Uniform tee-shirt for Concerts.

Must Attend a Parent Meeting and Instrument Demo on Monday, August 29 at 3 pm in the auditorium. Girls will be inspired to a lifetime of self-respect and a healthy lifestyle through an innovative program that combines training for a 3.1 mile run/walk race with a fun, health education lesson plan. This program promotes individual achievement and self –confidence. Girls gain self-esteem and learn healthy lifestyle habits while training for a 5K run/walk race. Meets both Mondays and Wednesdays.

Heart & Soul Learning Art From the Heart/span>

Feel Good Writing: Expressive Arts provides a vehicle through which children can experience feelings using writing. It is therapeutic in itself as a means of expression, mastery, and enjoyment. This fosters self-esteem, self-awareness, and has been shown to reduce stress/anxiety and promote psychological health. A new technique will be introduced in each class. Life skills, coping skills, communication skills, and social skills will be at the core of learning. Art journaling, storytelling through art, vision boards, “inside my head/heart” collages are examples of projects in class. Each student will have their own journal to work in throughout the class.

Super-Resilient Kids: Little People Can Do Big Things. This class promotes ethical values as a foundation for good character. Each week we will learn about teamwork, kindness, empathy, good sportsmanship, social skills, manners, honesty, accountability, etc. We will learn these attributes through fun games and activities! Examples of activities we will be doing: Marshmallow Spaghetti Towers for Teamwork, “Guess the Emotion” game for social skills, Bucket Filler game for kindness, and many others! Parents can take comfort in knowing their children are learning valuable skills for life, and kids can have fun developing into their own super-selves!

Like adults, kids need to get exercise…they need to put down the electronics turn off the tv and get their bodies moving for a minimum of 60 minutes a day. Movement of the body helps kids physically as well as helping their emotional, cognitive and social development. We all know the phrase ‘a healthy body equals a healthy mind’. Kids need to get moving and this is what we do at Movement Madness. We provide a fun and exciting way for kids to get/ stay fit mentally, emotionally, socially as well as physically.

We at Movement Madness are here for the development of the whole child. Through a 1 hour 15 minute class we provide your child with the needed 60 minutes of vigorous exercise, help develop and improve sport skills, build their self confidence by providing constant praise and a positive social environment where they feel good about themselves, build friendships and learn to be a team player. Classes are offered to all students at Steele from kindergarten to 5th grade.

Nature is all around us all the time!! Have you ever noticed a Prairie Falcon along Marion Pkwy? Or seen raccoon prints on the sidewalk along Lafayette St? If not, then come join us! This 8 week session will have a weekly theme. Each session will include a nature based science or art project. Children will be given a nature journal to record their experiences. “Coyote mentoring” an educational philosophy developed at the Wilderness Awareness School will be utilized to enhance the children’s natural curiosity and foster their emerging creative thinking and problem solving skills.

Thread is a fashion based program where kids learn hand sewing, machine sewing as well as draping and beginner pattern making. We also love fun upcycling projects which helps them understand the importance of staying green and recycling. Although many Thread projects are planned in advance, we base several projects inspired by the students so they feel like true artist. We also encourage free time sewing projects to teach them to produce original work and to help them work independently in class and at home. It’s amazing what they accomplish when given the creative space, materials, and opportunity!

Coding with Kids – Little Coders

Jump start your child’s STEAM education with Coding with Kids’ Little Coders class! Students will develop their computational thinking skills and build their own creative programs. Our curriculum combines a blend of fun activities – both “on-screen” and “off-screen” – to keep students engaged and excited about coding. This class will give students a strong foundation on coding basics, such as loops and conditionals, that can be built upon in our other classes. Kids will be introduced to these programming fundamentals in a variety of ways appropriate for this age group, from coding puzzles and board games to hands-on programming using online drag-and-drop tools, such as Scratch (scratch.mit.edu).

Coding with Kids – Intermediate Video Game Development!

Students will build on their current knowledge and move on to more advanced concepts, such as nested conditionals and functions, which will allow them to build more involved projects in Scratch, such as cool multi-level mazes or platformer games! Scratch (scratch.mit.edu) provides lots of creative outlets, such as backgrounds, characters, sounds and colors, which makes coding even more fun! The Intermediate club is recommended for kids who have already completed at least one Coding with Kids session or have been attending other Scratch coding classes (min. 15 hours of classes completed).

This class series consists of Movement (Dance, Fitness, Yoga) and Creative Arts ( drama, art, creative writing, digital design). Each class is specifically designed to assist children through appropriate physical and emotional development through creative modalities. Children will also be taught relaxation and self-regulation techniques, and how to implement them. They will develop body awareness, practice social skills, and have time to create and play!
Throughout each session, the group will create either a play, book, art project, digital project or dance – to present and perform at the end of the session. Don’t forget to pack your healthy snack!

A professional dance instructor will be at YOUR SCHOOL to teach a fun, high energy, beginning dance class! Warm up, stretch learn moves and routines to Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor, Katy Perry, and MORE!! All the songs the dancers know and LOVE!!! Classes are designed to teach dancers routines they can perform for family and friends. Several informal recitals are scheduled thru out the year. This is an excellent opportunity to enhance confidence and improve self-esteem!! No special shoes or clothes required! Boys and Girls Welcome!

Sticky Fingers (Session 2)

Cost is $296 for 16 classes

Let your child release their inner chef! Students will prepare and eat healthy global inspired recipes all while learning to cook in a fun, engaging and real world way! Our Chefs will reinforce kitchen skills associated with our weekly recipes and each area of cooking terminology, foods and fun nutrition facts (even a few bad jokes!) We will practice measurements, use a wide array of cooking utensils, while always preparing the freshest ingredients while cooking and more! Full recipes will be created each class with our AWESOME master chef Sticky Fingers Cooking instructors.

Taekwon-do
Grades K-3
Fridays 3:00-4:00. Rm Auditorium.

Cost is $125 for 8 classes

The traditional Korean Martial Art. Literally translated means the art or way of hand and foot. Founded by General Choi, Hong Hi, we teach the curriculum of the International Taekwon-do Federation (ITF).​ During this 60 minute class, the student will get to run, jump, kick, punch and block all while learning coordination, balance and much, much more! Daniela Hogle been training in Taekwon-do for over 25 years. She currently holds a 5th degree black belt and is an International Champion in the International Taekwon-do Federation(ITF). The head instructor for Holon Wellness Taekwon-do and Colorado International Taekwon-do (CIT), certified Personal Trainer and studied Child Psychology at Colorado State University. “I have and will continue to dedicate my life to the health and wellness of people of all ages and all walks of life.”

Young Rembrandts
Grades K-5

YOUNG REMBRANDTS provides all classroom supplies and a trained instructor. Classes are held immediately after school. Parents are responsible for transportation at class end. Winter sessions are a whimsical chance for kids to learn new CARTOONING TECHNIQUES like drawing character expressions and action sequences.
