Dear parents and students of Rooms 104 and 204,
I wanted to let you know that for the 2014-15 school year the students in Room 104 will be moving to 204, and likewise, the students in room 204 will be moving to Room 104.
I know that students become attached to their classrooms at Steele; it is the only school I know of where students say, “I’m in 204,” as opposed to, “I’m in Ms. Michelle’s room.” However, we are making this change to support teachers so that they can best meet the needs of our students. This change will allow all 4/5 classes to be on the top floor. This will facilitate more frequent collaboration between 4/5 teachers and help make Ms. Michelle Reedy’s transition to Steele smoother and better for her students.
Ms. Michelle Schibonski’s 2/3 class will be on the same floor as three other 2/3 classes, so she will still be able to easily collaborate with grade level peers. In addition we will still have two 2/3 classes on the top floor allowing for quick collaboration as well.
We do have systems at Steele that create opportunities for all teachers to collaborate. However, as anyone who has been new to a job knows, it is sometimes necessary to stick your head out your office (or in this case classroom) and be able to have a question answered quickly. This new classroom arrangement will facilitate this for all teachers. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
There will be a welcome back letter to all parents by next week. I hope that everyone is having a great summer. I can’t wait to see our students in a few weeks!
