Drama Newsletter from Mr. Miller

Thirteen years ago, I interviewed for a half day drama job at Steele Elementary School. That year, drama was a hot new thing. There were eight elementary drama positions open in the district. I interviewed and got two of them, both half day. I really didn’t think the positions would last more than a year or two. I figured that core content disciplines would win over in the end and the buildings would allocate resources another way. I was right. Right about the other building. I was told by the principal to find something else. But not at Steele. The Steele community has dedicated itself to teaching the whole child and drama is still here. I’m still amazed that this same commitment towards the arts that helps bind this community is as strong as ever. I feel quite grateful to the Steele community.

This semester your child will either go to music or drama. K, 1st and 2nd grades have drama until winter break. 3rd, 4th, and 5th, have music with Mr. Schmid. I will be directing the musical Annie after school for those 3rd, 4th and 5th graders that need their drama this semester. Look for a registration form here.

Thanks, and it’s great to be back for another year. — Mr. Miller
