From Mr. Miller

We have had a busy month in enrichment here at Steele Elementary:

Spelling Bee
On Thursday, December 7th we sent six spellers to the first D.P.S. Interschool spelling bee at Denver School of the Arts. Our spellers showed well. Milo Ross made it into the top 10 and was eliminated at the number 8 spot. And Owen Craig made it into the top 5! That means he made it into the challenge rounds. He spelled several words, then was eliminated at the number 5 spot. Congratulations to Owen and Milo and the rest of our spellers. Way to represent! Steele will host the next spelling bee on Thursday, January 25th.

Math Olympiads
Steele presently has 40 kids on two separate Math Olympiad teams. Math Olympiads is a program developed to expand students’ mathematical understandings. It is set up in a competitive format, but we focus on learning. We have taken 2 tests so far. Each test has 5 challenging problems to decipher and solve in 30 minutes. All 40 kids tested on Tuesday, December 12th. We presently have 8 kids tied at the top with a score of 8 out of 10. Way to go!

Young Authors’ Celebration
On Wednesday, December 13, Elias Kiefer and Sofia Pochman took their wonderful books to Temple Emanuel to show their books and celebrate with other young authors throughout the district. Elias wrote a book called Small Wolf and Sofia wrote a non-fiction book entitled Bangladesh. Congratulations to both of our young Authors! Way to represent!
