From the Principal

Dear Steele Families,

Please help us keep our students safe during arrival and dismissal. Recently, I have noticed students exiting cars stopped in the middle of Marion Parkway or cars parked on the westside curb of the northbound lane. This is extremely dangerous, especially during these busy traffic times. Parking on the westside curb of the northbound lane is illegal and could result in a traffic ticket. I realize drop off and pick up may be frustrating times for parents; however, I am sure we all agree that keeping our students safe is our top priority. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • During the winter months, more students arrive in a vehicle, which makes traffic heavier. Drive safely.
  • The traffic is heaviest between 8:05 and 8:15 am. Plan to arrive between 7:55 and 8:00 am.
  • The tardy bell rings at 8:15 am. School begins promptly at 8:15 am. If you are dropping off at 8:10 am, your child will likely be tardy. If you are dropping off at 8:15 am, your child is tardy.
  • Mornings can be hectic. If this is true for you, let Maria, our Food Service Manager, and her team serve your child breakfast at school. Breakfast is free! Service begins at 7:50 am.

3rd Grade Celebration of Learning
Congratulations to our 3rd grade students and teachers on their amazing Celebration of Learning last night! The energy was electric! It’s always thrilling to see students passionately share their learning with an authentic audience!

Mark Your Calendars – Lion King is Next Week!
Our students in 4th and 5th grade will be showcasing their acting, dancing and musical talents next week when they perform The Lion King on stage! Rarely does a day go by that I don’t slip into the auditorium to watch their rehearsals! I love watching them perform and listening to them sing with such passion! You won’t want to miss the 4/5 multiage production of The Lion King. You have six performances to choose from next week. There will be a 5:30 pm and a 7:00 pm performance on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. More details here.

Speaking of calendars, December 20 is the last day of school for students this semester. Winter Break is December 21 – January 4. Everyone returns to school on January 7, 2019.

Have a wonderful weekend!
