From the Principal

Dear Steele Families,

I am excited to share some good news about our attendance so far this year. As of today, 70% of our students are maintaining 95% attendance or higher! This puts us in the EXCEEDS category for attendance. It would be so awesome if we could maintain this rate through the end of the school year. Here are the attendance averages per grade level (This number reflects the percentage of students at 95% attendance or higher):

  • Kindergarten- 55.42% Meets Expectation
  • First Grade- 64.63% – Meets Expectation
  • Second Grade- 72.29% Exceeds Expectation
  • Third Grade- 76.74% Exceeds Expectation
  • Fourth Grade- 75.32% Exceeds Expectation
  • Fifth Grade- 78.65% Exceeds Expectation

Thank you for your support in achieving this attendance rating for the first half of the school year. Let’s continue to work hard to keep our attendance high!

DPS-DCTA Contract Negotiations

Today is the last Bargaining Session from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at the Acoma Campus, 1617 S. Acoma St., Denver, CO 80223. This meeting is public and open to anyone who would like to attend. Watch past meetings here.

If an agreement is not reached by tonight, the Denver Classroom Teacher Association has scheduled a strike vote with its members on January 19 and January 22. If DCTA conducts a strike vote, our district will request that the state intervene immediately. If the state intervenes, the strike will be on hold while the state is working to help resolve the issues. This intervention can last up to 180 days. If the state does not intervene, the first strike day would likely be January 28. Our district staff is preparing a contingency plan so that schools remain open should a strike occur. Our hope is an agreement will be reached by tonight’s deadline.

As always, thank you for supporting our Steele teachers.

Remember, there is no school on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Have a wonderful weekend.
