From the Principal

Dear Steele Families,

We are so happy to have all of our crew back! This week presented all of us with challenges and from my perspective we managed pretty well! I am so appreciative of our amazing paraprofessionals and staff who were here at school with us helping to keep our days as normal as possible. We were incredibly fortunate to have substitute teachers in all classrooms taking good care of our students all three days. I was so impressed by our students who worked hard for their guest teachers and kept calm and carried on – even though they were missing their teachers. I would also like to thank all of you for your kind words of encouragement, as well as you grace and patience this week.

We are SO happy to have our teachers back! While our substitute teachers did a fine job, we all know there really is no replacement for our incredible teachers. The tentative agreement between our district and the DCTA values our teachers’ hard work and honors their commitment to public education.

I recognize that the events of this week were not easy for you, our Steele families. I am reminded of why I chose to accept the principal’s position at Steele. I am grateful to be the principal of Steele Elementary because of our wonderful school community, which is exemplified by the incredible school – home partnership. On behalf of our whole staff, thank you for your support, encouragement, commitment and partnership.

Remember, we have no school on Monday in honor of President’s Day. Don’t forget that our Choir Concert was rescheduled for Thursday, February 21 at 5:30 pm.

We will resume our normal arrival and dismissal procedures.

Have a wonderful three-day weekend!
