The art room is buzzing with creativity and problem-solving projects.
Kindergarten and first grade have begun a printing and collage unit. We’re learning how to use tools of printmaking such as a brayer, plates, and simple cutting tools. We’ll create prints on a variety of papers.
Second and third grade are learning the art of collage making. We’ll learn about artists Joseph Cornell and James Bearden.
Fourth and fifth graders are finishing their painting unit connected with the reading of “Esperanza Rising.” Their final painting is about changes in their own lives. Our young Steele artists are painting wonderful inspirations. They’re also writing Artist’s Statements about their pieces.
The 4/5 teams will soon begin a rainforest unit. We need newspapers, toilet paper tubes, gift-wrap tubes, and Kleenex boxes. Thank you!
Shakespeare Festival is just over three months away but we’re busy creating our Steele Shakespeare banners. Thank you, PTA, for funding the banners.
PhotographyShowOn April 28, fourth and fifth graders will have their photography show at Leon Gallery. More info to come!
Also reserve the evening of May 12 for our Spectacular Steele Art Show. Please help make this a wonderful show by coming in to mat students’ artwork. No experience is necessary. Dates and times for matting volunteer signup will be in MySchoolAnywhere. Your help is greatly appreciated!
