No School – November 2nd

Just a reminder to everyone that there will be no school on Monday. This is a compensation day for teachers who worked over 8 hours to conduct conferences. As a school we have the choice to hold conferences all day Monday or hold them for 8 hours over another stretch of time. We feel that holding conferences after school is more convenient for parents and also ensures that teachers are relatively fresh for their conferences (we’re not sure conference number 26 would be to great on a a single day). I’d like to thank all of our teachers, interns and parents for making parent teacher conferences a success.

Last week our teachers had two planning days where they were able to review student work, receive Professional Development on the new literacy curriculums we are using and also collaboratively plan. The review of student work will be shared in parent teacher conferences (or has been) and the Professional Developments were off campus led by the companies that provide us (and most of DPS) with the curriculum. Lastly, we met together as a staff to set norms for what each student should know when they leave their grade level. Of course this is set in the standards but we wanted to define what some of the standards look like in practice. This led us to work in foundational literacy skills.
