Collaborative School Committee (CSC)
The Collaborative School Committee (CSC) is an elected school-based advisory board at Steele Elementary School. Members of the CSC serve a 2-year term and include the principal, 4 teachers, 4 parents, 1 staff member, and a community representative. We work together to provide for the short- and long-term direction of our school. Our primary focus is student achievement. Our mission is to create an environment for our community in which the educational, social, and emotional needs of all Steele students is successfully served. We are proactive in anticipating these needs and creating solutions.
The CSC duties include:
- School Improvement Plan (SIP): Approve the annual School Improvement Plan (SIP) for Steele according to district guidelines, and in collaboration with the Steele community. This is based on current objective achievement data provided by the central office and meeting the approval of the assistant superintendent. Steele’s current CSC goals can be found at: (coming soon). - Budget: Reviewing and approving the annual school budget according to district guidelines that supports the objectives of the SIP, based on the allocation from the Board of Education.
- Staffing: Assist the principal by making recommendations concerning the use of the staffing allocation provided to the school by the Board of Education.
- Evaluation of the Principal. Annually evaluating the principal.
- Safety and Discipline. Reviewing school procedures and policies as a part of the SIP.

The CSC usually meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month during the school year at 3:30 PM in the Steele Library. Parents and staff are welcome to attend any meeting.
Meetings are always open to the public. To increase CSC involvement, we have an open discussion period at the end of each meeting. If there is something you would like to discuss at a meeting, as a courtesy, please contact the CSC Chair at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled meeting, to let them know ahead of time so they can try and make room for your topic on the agenda. You can e-mail the CSC Chair at Steelecsc@gmail.com. The minutes from each meeting will be posted below and on the CSC bulletin board outside of the auditorium.
Save the date: The CSC will hold two constituency meetings this year, one in the fall and one in the spring. The entire Steele community is invited.

The CSC welcomes your suggestions, questions, and concerns. You may leave a note in the folder marked “CSC” located on the CSC Bulletin Board outside the auditorium or send an email to Steelecsc@gmail.com. E-mails come to the CSC Chair, and all suggestions, questions, and concerns will be shared with the other CSC members. If you do not want your name shared with the other CSC members, please say so in your correspondence.
