This is a photo of Steele Library taken sometime between 1929 and 1935. Notice many of the bookshelves in the photo are still there today (though all of the books have changed!) The magazine rack in the left of the photo is still there, but the great light fixtures are not.

Donations
Do you have too many books? Are there books your child doesn't read anymore? Steele Library gladly accepts donations of books. If you have books that are in good condition, we would be interested in looking at them.
Volunteers
Would you like to volunteer in the library? That would be great! There are many things volunteers can do in the library: reshelve books, read to classes, create displays and more.
Other things . . .
Library Policy
Students are scheduled to visit the library once a week. Books are checked out to your child for 2 weeks. Children who would like to check out books every week must return the books from the previous week, however.
Renewal
If children would like to renew books, that is okay, but the book(s) must be brought into the library for renewal.
Overdue notices
Overdue notices are generated three times a week and given to the classroom teacher. These notices are then given to the student, who is responsible for returning the overdue book. Please ask your child if they have returned their books on time! Students with overdue books cannot check out anymore books until they are returned.
Bills
If you receive a bill for a book that your child has lost, please make every effort to see the librarian, as accommodations can be made for different circumstances.
What you can do...
Help your child return their books on time by:
1) Being aware that they have brought a library book home.
2) Checking the Due Date stamped on the inside of the book's cover.
3) Having a special place for your child to keep his or her book(s), like a basket or box by the front door.
4) Reminding them that if they have books that are late, they will not be able to check out books the next time they have library time (many children in this situation are very disappointed).
