In August, Steele will partner with Denver Recycles to add composting and recycling to our school lunchroom. A “waste station” will be added for students to place their recyclables and compostables in carts.
We are forming a parent green team to assist with the kickoff and maintenance of the program. Volunteers will be trained by Denver Recycles at Steele during the week of August 20th (TBD) and asked to assist with:
- Helping student compost monitors advise their peers
- Answering students’ recycling and composting questions
- Educating the school community about the program by incorporating recycling and composting into school events
- Identifying additional ways to reduce waste at Steele
We are looking for at least 10 volunteers. We will have the greatest need for volunteers when we kick off the compost program at the beginning of the school year. Plan on a time commitment of about 1-2 hours per week during the first month of school. Please contact Becky Goyton at firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up or to learn more.
