Coach Welch grew up right here in Denver attending University Park, Merrill, and South High School. I played lacrosse at the University of Denver (Go Pios!) as an undergrad while earning my B.S.B.A. in Management. I returned to DU to get a K-6 Elementary Education license alongside an M.A. Curriculum and Instruction. After finishing DU’s program, I became a Metro State Roadrunner for a second endorsement on my teaching license of K-12 Physical Education. I am starting my 17th year at Steele and love our school, the kids, the families, and our community.
My wife Marni and I have two sons who are attending Merrill Middle School (Trevor 7th) and South High (Brady 9th). We live in the University Park/Observatory Park neighborhood. Our family are outdoor enthusiasts including camping, hiking, paddle boarding, lots of biking, skiing/snowboarding, kayaking, and pickleball. As often as possible, our beloved furry family member, Sammy, loves to accompany us on our adventures.
